The study of human tissues using ultrasonic waves is ultrasonography. A handheld device called a transducer is used. By sending and receiving high-frequency waves, the transducer helps record the real-time picture of the inside of the breast. It generates the internal structure of the breast. So that it clearly shows the changes in the breast.

In this procedure, the area visualised is equal to the size of the probe used, unlike with a mammogram, where the entire breast is visible in a single frame.
